I’m looking forward to seeing which ones get the higher points J

This year I watched as many Anime’s as I could fit in and I’m sure I’ve missed a few good ones that I can come back to another day , however this is from what I’ve seen and enjoyed my top 12 Anime’s of 2012.

Here is my top 12 (Short list)

12 – Tasogare Otome×Amnesia (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia)

11 – Bodacious Space Pirates

10  – To Love-Ru Darkness

9 – Medaka Box

8 – Fate Zero

7 – Girls und Panzer

6 – Blast of Tempest

5 – Ixion Saga DT

4 -  Accel World

3 – Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the dead

2 – Campione!

1 – Sword Art Online (SAO)

Here is my top 12  (More Detailed List)

12 – Tasogare Otome×Amnesia (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia),

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

The first episode had me right from the start. A ghost with roaming the school causing trouble and mischief, only a few people could see her, one of which befriended her and this started off a ghost investigation club which started to investigating the multiple ghost story’s around the school.

This was in an effort to try to work out her past as she had no idea of how she actually died.
I liked the humour, the artwork, music and even though it did have romantic part to it with the main character and the ghost getting closer to each other the pace was good, the art work was good, the music was excellent. There was always a shadow lurking around the corner, you knew something was going to happen but not when or even what was going to happen, it kept you guessing! I enjoyed it and will watch it again sometime!

11 – Bodacious Space Pirates,

Space Pirates

This one was a bit of fun with a different story, hay who would of thought of pirates being legalised! I didn’t expect the cosplay element and considering that the originally novel of this was called “Mini Skirts Space Pirates” I was pleasantly surprised to find there was no fan service!

The characters were likeable, the story was good a few nice twists. Art work as nice, music so-so, story overall good and they left it wide open for a second season or movie and to be honest I hope they do continue it.

10  – To Love-Ru Darkness,

To Love Ru

I started to watched this out of curiosity! Fan Service was to be expected from this series! Not one for the kids!

However that said there is a story behind it “revolves around Rito Y?ki, a high-school student who cannot confess to the girl of his dreams, Haruna Sairenji. One day when coming home and sulking in the bathtub, a mysterious, nude girl appears out of nowhere. Her name is Lala and she comes from the planet Deviluke, where she is the heir to the throne. Her father wants her to return to her home planet so she can marry one of the husband candidates. But she decides that she wants to marry Rito in order to stay on Earth.” Over the course of 3 seasons (This one being the 3rd!) more and more aliens appear and the naive, kind and obviously blind Rito ends up with multiple girls all after his attention and one particular one trying to arrange Rito into a harem with multiple girls. There are some very amusing moments with these very different and odd characters including one that changes sex when she/he sneezes!

Overall the show has a good sense of humour and I have been enjoying the odd moments like the last episode I watched where they used an alien invention to change Rito into a Girl for a few hours!
I went back and watched a few of the first season and the story really hasn’t moved on since the first anime, there is just more characters and less people trying to kill the main character or steal Lala from him. Its at10 because it is a lot better than I expected and I’m probably going to watch it through to see what happens next. Love the characters, art work and the humour.

9 – Medaka Box,

Medbox

Are you Normal? Special? or AbNormal? That is basically how this school categorises its students. I personally get called special occasionally but I don’t think it’s quite in the same sense J  The school is full of people who are abnormally strong, fast or with odd and wonderful powers… The story focuses around one girl who seems to be an Abnormal and also seems to have more than one abnormality (how many times can I use “ab” in a sentence?).

There is a lot of fighting between students who want to be in what seems to be the top 13 people of the school so that they can gain access to a project called “The Flask” which the main character (and her brother) have some involvement in and don’t quite like the idea of playing god and therefore are working to try and put a stop to it. (I’m trying not to give too much away, so not saying much more).

The art work isn’t ok and the story line so far isn’t great but its enjoyable, pace is good and I find myself looking forward to the next episode which is why its on this list at number 9.

8 – Fate Zero (Second Season),

Fate Zero

I enjoyed most of the Fate series and was looking forward to Fate Zero (Counted down the days in-fact) I enjoyed it, though I felt they spent too much time building up the characters back story before it got to the action. You know the story from Fate Stay Night, so it was nice to get a little bit of infilling around some of the gaps left in the previous series (for example, Rin’s dad was dead but you didn’t know how) the new insight into the story was good. It was also nice to see it from a prequel perspective, it explains a few things about some of the characters you see again 10 years later in Fate Stay Night.
I was also happy to see some more expansion on Rin’s character as a kid. I enjoyable, artwork which was amazing (Berserker on a  jet plain) and did I mention the character development (even though slow) was still very good. Another one I can watch again and again and probably will.

7 – Girls und Panzer,

Girls And Panzer

This one again is quite new, only 5 episodes in and I think its here in number 7. I was expecting some fan service and was expecting to drop it a few episodes in, yet I’m waiting the next episode to see who won the tank battle (5.5, I can’t believe there making me wait! :P ).

The start was good with the little surprise at the end of the first episode… Was not expecting that!
I don’t think it is something that school girls in Japan actually do but in this world they pick  a club while at school and Tankery is one of the options!
So groups of girls drive tanks and do battle against each other, the group of 4 characters that follow the main character all have there own personalities and it plays out quite well, some funny moments, some serious (Entertaining episode about breaking into another school for a covert op to find out more about there attack plans). Overall it’s an enjoyable show worth a watch and safe for the kids.
